This week I would like to take a break from phones and cover the latest in tablets. Everyone has been all over the Ipad 3, but the reality is, the releases show little improvement that I deem nowhere near significant. Any other tablet can compete with the Ipad (like the Samsung Galaxy Tab) but Apple is the self-proclaimed elite smart ass of a company that portrays that image that if it isn’t Apple it’s nothing. I’m just saying, what’s the point?

Newer technology is one thing, but the only major game changer to the Ipad series was the introduction of cameras placed on the front and back of the device. With newer versions of the Ipad being released, sales have skyrocketed from re-release to re-release as if something has changed. As I mentioned in my post about Iphones, Ipads are rocking in the same boat. People only go out and buy the new version to flaunt that they have it.  Otherwise I see no reason. But let’s get to some stats shall we.

One thing I have noticed is that now phone companies are selling tablets with a bundle internet service to make more money. It’s cheaper to buy a tablet outside of a phone company if you ask me. Besides that there are no huge differences as I stated before about the Ipad. The one thing that caught my eye was the difference in size of an Ipad 3 with just wifi opposed to wifi with 4g. The 4g Ipad is ten grams heavier but who would even notice that?

Apple is infamous for being the “trend setter.” I never understood why Apple products don’t have an SD card slot until I realized that to own an Apple you have to be sophisticated and to be sophisticated you have to sync everything (which is a complete bust). Why not do away with Sims cards as well and emulate Verizon while you’re at it?

Tests have shown that the Ipad 1 has the fastest booting speed and internet speed in multiple tests, yet Apple claims that the Ipad 3 has the best retina display, 4g LTE speed, and trumps its earlier versions in overall performance. The retina display may have impacted the speed for the Ipad 3 but it’s not too far behind the Ipad2. But it’s still a huge disappointment if you ask me (and an apparent waste of money for consumers).

I’m glad I didn’t fall victim to Apple. I bought a second generation Ipod touch and I wished it would’ve had a camera on it. Guess what happened. The very next year Apple re-released a newer version of the Ipod touch with a camera (two cameras at that). You can only imagine how pissed I was. Nowadays you have to wait for the best in product development. In some cases this could take years if the products are even worth the hype. You will never catch me camping for the next day release of anything. It’s all just another sales pitch to increase revenue.

Iphone Schmiphone

Everyone is raving about the Iphone 4s, better yet the expected Iphone 5 this summer. What is it about the Iphone family that makes it so popular? I honestly don’t see whats all the fuss about. As a previous Iphone 3gs owner, I was not ecstatic when I discovered that everything needs to be synced to the phone. You would think that when you get a new phone everything is automatically imported, but no that’s just not the case.

There are a few qualities that deem the Iphone prehistoric (hence similar designs in newer models), like the difficulty in creating ringtones (explaining why every owner has the same default tone), or syncing data from your SD card. Oops, I forgot, Iphone is not SD card accessible. What drove me to get the Iphone was due to the fact that I had an Ipod Touch at the time and I had grown tiresome of constantly totting two devices, but once I made the switch, I had poor service, and realized that GSM is a gimmick. The only feature that I enjoyed was the music library, something that I could’ve enjoyed with my Ipod, and without having to spend unnecessary money.

The biggest load of crap that I discovered was that I could not send nor recieve picture messages unless I bought an app that enabled me to. Every phone on the market, even the simplest of non-smart flip phones have the capability to send picture messages. What the hell is that about? Furthermore, Apple consumers have had issues with flash support for years because of Apple’s choice to be different from other phone companies.

Now before I continue my tirade, I will admit that the Iphone has evolved in overall appearance, and syncing with the Ipad or Macbook is a resourceful feature, but the biggest issue is the app market. The Apple Store versus the Play Store (newest name for Android market) is in no way competition. Long time Apple customers may not see a problem with buying an app if they’re not willing to jail break, but there are thousands more of apps on the Android market, that are free. I have tested every major feature on the Iphone and I can honestly say that every one of them can be out staged by an Android, even the high quality video that everyone boasts about. Frankly, I see Iphones as more of a trend. It may sound absurd but it seems like people buy phones just for the Apple emblem. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

This is where you the readers come in. What is it that you absolutely love about the Iphone 4s? Have any of the major features changed in the latest model? Do you prefer Iphones or ever owned one? If so, I would like for you to leave your responses in the comments below.
